The most commonly used idea for Reggae is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also depicts the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora.
Many people became more conscious when their love for reggae grew. The musical genre really had many legends like Joseph Hill aka Culture, Lucky Dube, Bob Marley, Buju Banton, Peter Tosh, Alpha Blondy and others.
There was one reggae artiste in Africa who really did his bid to push the genre. Even though he is deceased, his impact is still felt till date.
Lucky Philip Dube was a South African reggae musician and Rastafarian who was noted to have recorded 22 albums in Zulu, English and Afrikaans in a 25-year period and was South Africa’s best & biggest-selling reggae artist.
Sadly, Lucky Dube was murdered in the Johannesburg suburb of Rosettenville on the evening of 18 October 2007.
He would have been 56 years in this month.
His recognition in reggae within Africa can never be swept under the carpet.
