(Trending): House of Reps shoots down castration as punishment for rapists
Almost all the 360 House of Representatives personnel (Nigeria) have rejected the recommendation for castration of rapists as the surest way to clamp down on incessant defilement and rape cases.
The authorities recall that while considering and adopting a probable motion on the rising cases of sexual violence in Nigeria, the representatives voted massively against a prayer seeking to suggest castration for male rapists at the plenary.
Mr. James Faleke, a staunch member of the house had recommended that persons found guilty of rape should be castrated to serve as deterrence to other unscrupulous persons.
As a democratic chamber, the House of Representatives put the prayer to vote and castration of rapists as punishment was rejected by the majority.
After the sitting, the introduction of the idea caused a stir among members.
