UNPROFESSIONAL PRACTICES EVERY TEACHER SHOULD AVOID.
Unprofessional Practices Every Teacher Should Know And Avoid:
– Making and receiving phone calls during instructional hours.
– Giving Punishments that deprives learners from taking part in lessons.
– Boycotting lessons/ leaving the class due to a student’s misbehavior.
– Allowing students to mark attendance register.
– Allowing students to mark exercises.
– Giving texbook/notebook to students to copy on the board for their colleagues.
– Reading contents verbatim from texbook to pupils.
– Sending pupils on errands during instructional hours.
– Giving items to pupils to sell in the school.
– Taking in alcohol and other similar substances before coming to school.
– Engaging in unhealthy relationship with your students.
– Working lotto or engaging in sports betting during instructional hours.
– Discriminating against a student due to personal reasons. Be it misbehaviour, tribal, religious or political affiliation.
– Doing politics in the school or in the classroom.
– Indoctrination/ forcing your religion on your students.
-Quarrelling / fighting with students or colleague teachers. It doesn’t show maturity.
– Unnecessary borrowing from students and colleagues.
– Being too free with your pupils and often engaging in unhealthy conversation with pupils.
– Finally, borrowing money from your students.
Teaching is a noble profession and displaying professionalism is key to keeping the standard.
