240x_mg_i41ph76gfa_ageing_musiciansThe Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has launched its flagship Welfare Fund for Ageing Musicians (AMWeF) in Accra.

The President of MUSIGA, Bice Osei Kuffour, aka Obour, said the AMWeF was to take care of the welfare of members of MUSIGA who were 60 years and above.

It is also to among others to establish a database of musicians who have become incapacitated during their musical lives and to register all targeted beneficiaries with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHS).

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, advised musicians to take savings as a priority during their younger and active years, and also to ensure they contribute to pension or insurance schemes to ensure a smooth life in their later ages.

There were presentations by Tecno Mobile, AshFoam, Kasapreko Company Limited and Starlife Assurance.

Musicians Kofi Sammi, Nana Ampadu, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah, K.K. Fosu, Noble Nketsiah and Tagoe Sisters provided live band performances.

The immediate past President of MUSIGA, Diana Hopeson; former President John Agyekum Kufuor; Chief Godfred Medicine and Theresa Ayiode, Director at Charterhouse, are among the Executive Patrons of the fund, which is being managed by the First Banc Group.

It is enshrined in the policy that successive leaderships of the union are to continue to build the fund to support the purpose for which it has been established.
