What Are You Expecting On Valentine’s Day?

SAM_1295Out and about in town looking at what’s going on in town and how people are getting ready for the Valentine’s Day tomorrow. I visited some shops who were busily selling hampers and other gifts. Most of the patrons were men. Some shops won’t close today and will be selling till day breaks tomorrow and the same for Saturday. Others also are not so concerned about Valentine.
Valentine’s Day has been accepted in Ghana and celebrated even though it’s not a nationally accepted holiday. It is celebrated on 14th February and given a lot of attention despite the little knowledge on what it really entails. A walk through town and you get to see so many hampers wrapped in red and red roses. Chocolate has been the feature since it was made a chocolate day in Ghana. Chocolate is in abundance on the street. Teddy bears, wine, flowers, candies, drinks all in red. Boutiques are also showcasing red and white clothes in style with discounts. There are also several shows scheduled for the day all over the country for the night of valentine. Most hotel and guest houses are booked to the maximum. Sales of condoms have also shot up. Most churches are also trying to control their members from the world by organizing various events on the day to engage them. In concluding Ghanians have accepted this holiday and are celebrating how best they interpret it.
