Where Do Our Religious Leaders Stand In Connection with The Disaster

imagesYesterday the worst ever natural disaster to hit Ghana which over 200 lives were lost. Particularly and the death occurred at Kwame Nkrumah Circle Goil filling station it was a sad sight as dead bodies were carried to the hospital and survivors cried their heart out. So far government officials have had their say. Blame is either to government or citizens but all the same it has taken lives and souls that are precious to our dear countries. Kwame Nkrumah circle is a very busy place and active at every time of the day so you can imagine the number of people who were affected and also witnessed this tragic event.
So far the only religious leader who has said anything about the disaster is the Islam Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu who came to share his sentiments. Apart from him no one else has said anything to their followers. Listening to a woman who was interviewed affected by the Flood; her twin children and husband and she kept shouting “Awurade wo som ye yah…………………….” which means It will be difficult to serve God and questioning if that’s how people are treated if they serve God.
Our religious leaders must step up and reach out to this people especially the Christians. According to population census Christians are a larger percentage of the Ghanaian population. We need to hear them speak to comfort them and also to reach out to lost souls and those affected. Affected people need to be motivated strongly to continue and their faith. Help must also be given in terms of material help because most people have lost everything and won’t be able to sleep in their homes for some time. Others are also traumatized and need psychological help to get better. Ghana is a very religious country and religion is part of all daily activities of the country.  Religion is in education, work, profession and almost every part of citizens life. So religious leaders must stand out and make a differencein these peoples lives to impact on them.
