why yvonne nelson won’t take up political office

Actress Yvonne Nelson has disclosed she does not like titles that come with being in a political office nor like being tagged a member of a political party.

According to her, these things hold her back from taking up a political office.

“I want to help society by making an impact, highlight problems and be a voice but I just don’t want to be tagged,” she told Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.

The actress, who was named Tourism Ambassador after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) came into power, said the title does not add or take away anything from her or what she has been doing for the state.

The ‘Heels and Sneakers’ producer said she is making strides in promoting the country in her own way.

“I have an Instagram page Travel to Ghana that focuses solely on the country. I add ‘GH’ to all my social media handles because I am that patriotic. I don’t need a title for that,” she added.

Yvonne Nelson explained that ending her term as Tourism Ambassador has not stopped her from working for the country.

Asked if she would take up the position of president of the Creative Art Council, she said, “what is the name going to do for me? I can still do stuff in my own little way and not have that title.”

The mother of one also revealed she does not fancy some things that come with being in a higher position.

Stating motorcade as one of such luxury, the actress said it is dangerous, scary and embarrassing to ride with a fleet of cars, crossing paths of people with no restrictions.

“I have experienced it before and I did not like it. I don’t want to die, I have a child now,” she added.

Yvonne Nelson mentioned she is surprised how many have tagged her as an NPP person but “I have not even claimed a party.”

Since her ‘Dumsor must stop campaign in 2015 many people have associated the actress to the NPP.

According to many, the party which was then in opposition benefited from her campaign which raised questions of her party affiliations.

Talks of her affliation intensified when she was made a tourism ambassador and according to people spoke less of the NPP dumsor experience.

However, speaking to Andy Dosty, the actress said she was only a citizen using projecting her concerns over the unbearable state of Dumsor.

She explained that although she began talking about Dumsor during the NPP era, it did not gain as much traction from the public like the former.

“Let’s face it, dumsor in this era is not as bad as it was in the Mahama era. We were shooting movies with generators, hospitals were having a tough time treating patients,” she added.

Ms Nelson is not the only celebrity associated or linked to a political party.

John Dumelo, Bibi Bright, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Fritz Baffuor, Ebi Bright and many others have ventured into politics with the aim of not only helping people and the country but also help in the growth of the industry with their position.

The actress stated, she although she will not take up a political position, she may want to work with the United Nations after she attains her master’s degree in International relations
