Winning third at Miss World was breaking boundaries – Miss Ghana 2012

Miss-Ghana 2012-newMiss Ghana 2012, Carranzer Naa Okailey Shooter who was adjudged the second runner up in this year’s Miss World beauty pageant believes she broke boundaries with the win.

The Ghanaian, who emerged third among 126 contestant from across the world in the finale held at the Bali International Convention Centre in Bali, Indonesia Saturday night, arrived in Ghana Monday night.

Before achieving the impressive feat, Naa Okailey made it to the Top 10, and after that number was whittled down, she still managed to get a place in the Top 5.

With this, she automatically becomes Miss World Africa 2013, taking over the crown from South Sudan’s Atong Demarth who received that accolade last year.

Naa Okailey arrived to a mammoth welcome by some dignitaries, relatives and friends including the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare at the Kotoka International Airport. She later told that she has been overwhelmed by the Miss World experience.

“It’s been so great, I am excited. When they mentioned my name on stage, if you watched the clip, you will realize that I was crying because it was like breaking a boundary and it’s been a humbling experience for me,” she said.

Commenting on her achievement, the Miss Ghana 2012 noted that, “I was [surprised],” to have made it this far “and being the only African in the Top 20 was a huge shock to me.”

After a month of competitions, Miss Naa again placed third in the Beach Fashion finales. Her Beauty with a Purpose project on Buruli Ulcer was also selected among the Top 10 projects.

According to her, her feat at the pageant will give her the needed platform to do more for society stating, “once it’s on the international stage,” there is no limit to what she can do.
