XCLUSIV FOTOS: Celebrities Take Over Peace FM Studios!

Ghanaians woke up on Tuesday, March 6th (Indece Day) to the pleasant voices of different celebrities and renowned politicians, instead of the usual presenters, playing host on various programmes on the country’s number one radio station, Peace FM.

Right from the ever influential “Kokrokoo”, the flagship programme of the station to the relaxed “Ekwanso bre bre” drive time show, policy makers and other popular public figures in Ghana were brought together to do radio and reveal lighter aspects of their personalities to the public.

What made the show spectacular and unique was that it was in celebration of Ghana’s 55th Independence Anniversary. It was the station’s own way of joining in the commemoration of the anniversary celebration which was a national holiday.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Adenta, Hon. Kojo Adu Asare began the day by serving listeners the biggest breakfast in town on “Kokrokoo” when he sat in for regular host “Chairman-General” Kwami Sefa Kayi. An interesting show it was as his presentation was ‘okay’ for a first-timer. He can be forgiven as it became obvious the seat was really big to fill in.

The usual review of newspapers was not done by Nana Yaw Kese, Kojo Dickson, Nana Yaa Konadu, Odi Ahenkan or Nana Adjei but by the ‘insane’ Kwaw Kese aka Abodam with support from Hi-Life living legend Abrantie Amakyi Dede also known as ‘seeeeeeerious’ who also did the Live Presenter Mentions (LPM) on the morning show.

Afro Pop singer, Rebecca Acheampong better known as Becca, read the 10am News on Peace FM in her own version of twi. She could not help but intermittently use some English phrases during that segment and when the going got tough, she simply said “i’m going over it again”.

Deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Awuku took his turn to host the brunch program “Working Time”, originally hosted by Kofi Kum Bilson. The youngman, who used the opportunity to discount the rumour that he was set to get married, really did a yeoman’s job.

Actor and Comedian Koofori, Rapper and MUSIGA Spokesperson Okyeame Kwame and affable actress and Comedian Original Afia Schwarzenegger were the surprise celebrity package as newscasters to read the Midday Bulletin.

Actor and veteran Broadcaster, Kofi Adjorlolo anchored the “Lunch Time” program where, he brought back memories of his days on radio by playing classic contemporary Hi-Life songs including his all-time favorite “Aben wo ha” by Daddy Lumba.

Original Afia Schwarzenegger was back on air again to read the afternoon’s batch of social announcements together with aspiring Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Ursula Owusu and Peace FM’s Kwabena Marfo.

The Acting Public Relations Officer at the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Cephas Arthur was also at hand to go through the rest of the announcements.

Sports was hosted by Business mogul and renowned Sports Administrator Herbert Mensah and the panel comprised NDC Deputy National Secretory and Spokesperson for the Rawlingses, Mr. Kofi Adams, award winning costumier Samira Yakubu and Maame Yeboah of Peace FM’s “Woba ada anaa” fame.

After Kofi, Samira and Maame Yeboah had provided listeners with the latest news on the sports scene, Herbert then interviewed the official drummer of the Black Stars, Joseph Langabell, who is a close associate of most of the players and management members on Goran Stevanovic’s performance as coach of the Black Stars and Asamoah Gyan’s decision to call it quits with the senior national team.

If the feedback from callers into the programme after the panel had done justice to the issue of whether Goran Stevanovic should be sacked is anything to go by, then the former Chief Executive of Asante Kotoko Football Club and his sports crew were really exceptional.

But the day of fun-poking programming and inverted show line-ups as the country marked its 55th birthday was far from over as a rip cracking on air dialogue ensued between Peace FM’s newscaster, Kwabena Marfo and a UK based Ghanaian-born student Akua Hamilton who was on a short visit to the country.

Akua’s heavy British accent really had Kwabena in wonderland as he repeatedly kept saying “erm, erm, pardon”. He tried a couple of times to immitate her style of speech which simple made matters worse.

The icing on the cake was when beautiful actress Jackie Appiah sat in as the host of Peace FM’s drive time program “Ekwanso bre bre” originally hosted by Fiifi Banson. She interacted with her fans and listeners who were thrilled to hear her read the 5pm news.
