I’m Done With Comedy – David Oscar

imagesStand-up comedian David Oscar can now be rightly be referred to as a former comedian after reiterating that his passion has shifted to music. He, however, says he did not abandon comedy because of failure in that industry, as his critics have suggested.

David Oscar, who came into the limelight after exhibiting his humorous character on the defunct Stars of the Future reality show, has announced his entry into the music scene.

Oscar’s time in comedy could have been described as rocky with many criticizing his jokes as not funny.

As a result, his new love for music has been described by critics as a clear admission of failure in comedy.

Speaking on 3FM’s mid morning show ‘Urban Blend’ , the former stand-up comedian said: “I’m a music artiste and I declared on a different platform that I am done with comedy and I think a lot of people missed that.

“It gets to a point where you cannot express certain experiences and certain feelings you have cannot be expressed comedically and being an artiste I’m always in constant search for ways to express myself and I think that music came in at the right time.

“I think that I came in at a time to play my role and if you were to measure the success of GH comedy based on the role that some of us played, it has been very successful so I wonder why anybody would think that I am failed comedian that is why am doing music.

“Those who liked me liked me for my comedy and those who hated me hated me for my comedy”.

Reggae music

Oscar noted that he takes inspiration from artistes like Morgan Heritage, Bob Marley, and Peter Tosh as he embarks on his new artistic journey.

“Most of my songs are all reggae songs including the ones you haven’t heard and my biggest inspiration is reggae music.

“I think that I probably don’t listen to any other kind of music apart from reggae and it’s because of the message.

“It’s the message that I carry which I want to share and apart from my personal orientation which I don’t want to talk about but it gives me a very good outlet be able to share my story truthfully with my audience”.
