#‎dumsormuststop: Don’t let politics spread into your fold – Mahama warns celebs

President John Mahama has warned persons in the creative arts industry not to allow politics to infiltrate the sector. According to the president, divisions in Ghanaian politics is already bad enough for the country and warned that the creative industry shouldn’t fall victim to it. The president’s call follows accusations levelled against some celebrities for doing the bidding of the opposition News Patriotic Party (NPP) as they hold vigil to register their displeasure about the current power crisis. Some celebrities, including Sarkodie, Yvonne Nelson and DKB, announced their intention to hold a vigil to put pressure on the government to find a solution to the severe power crisis now referred to as ‘Dumsor’. The vigil, which is expected to be a peaceful procession by the celebrities and their fans with lit candles, torches, and lanterns, is an offshoot of a social media campaign #‎dumsormuststop that Yvonne started last week. Lawyers for Yvonne Nelson and Sarkodie wrote to the Greater Accra regional police command to inform them of the vigil. The police on Thursday gave the celebrities the green light to hold the vigil on May 16. After a meeting with the Yvonne Nelson and her lawyers, the police have agreed to provide security for the vigil which the organisers say they expect just 50 participants. Meanwhile, President Mahama appears worried by the way politics is creeping into the creative arts industry. Concerned about the development, the president posted on twitter Thursday that: “The division in our politics is bad enough. Let it not spread to our creative industry. Let’s cease the polemics. — JM”.   –
