2020: Maa Lydia Alhassan To Go Unopposed In Ayawaso West Wuogon – NPP

The New Patriotic Party has declared there will be no primaries at Ayawaso West Wuogon in the Greater Accra Region.

This to allow the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon.Lydia Seyram Alhassan, to go unopposed and run as the only Parliamentary candidate for the NPP in Ayawaso West Wuguon during the 2020 general elections.

This follows a joint declaration by the NPP National Council and National Executive Committee in a meeting held on October 21, 2019.

The council passed a resolution that “whoever is elected/selected as the party’s candidate in a by-election less than two years to a general election shall be maintained as the party’s Parliamentary candidate for the constituency in the ensuing general election except where the candidate decides otherwise”.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has outlined guidelines and modalities for the party’s Parliamentary Primaries ahead of the 2020 Parliamentary elections in Orphan constituencies, that’s constituencies with no sitting MPs.

NPP General Secretary, John Boadu, in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday, stated that the guidelines were approved at the party’s National Steering Committee in a meeting on Thursday, July 11, 2019.

The statement read that the “National Steering Committee’s initiative was consequent to the directives of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party which met on July 1, 2019, pursuant to Article 12 and 13 of the Party’s constitution”.

The NPP will open nominations for the orphan constituencies from July 20 and close on August 3, and elections will be conducted on September 28 simultaneously across the country.

Aspiring Parliamentary candidates are to procure nomination forms after the payment of non-refundable application fee of GHC 2,000 and filing fee GHC 20,000 while physically challenged aspirants pay a filing fee of GHC 10,000 at the NPP National Headquarters, Accra.
