Assin Achiase residents in the Assin South District in the central region are crying over lack of footbridge on river “OKYE” that linked the farmers from Achiase and it’s communities to their farmlands.
Over the years, they have been using cannon to cross the river to their various farms, which sometimes sinked leading to lost of lives and properties
The Cannon has served as the only means through which people from Achiase and its environs transport their farm produce to the the community and school children also uses the same cannon before getting access to education, which is making life unbearable,
It is well noted that Cocoa farming is the major occupation for the locals there. The state of the river however poses a threat to it users anytime it rain, farmers have to wait until the river reduce before they can cross it.
According to the chief of the town, Nana Nkansah Oberempong lll who doubles as Nifahene of Apimanim traditional council, his people are dying so he urged the Assin South district Assemble, NGOs, Philanthropies and other stakeholders to help them construct a footbridge on the river “OKYE” because it’s their only means of transportation which they can bring their farm produce.
He stated that due to lack of the bridge the driver of the Cannon has been drown three days now, he is no where to be found,
to prevent this occurances the District Assemble, government and NGOs should come to their aid.
The residents therefore plead with authorities in the district and central government to construct a footbridge for them in order to help boost economic activities in the area.
