Ahiagbah Responds To Dr. Bissiw

The Executive Director of Danquah Institute (DI), Richard Ahiagbah has responded to claims by the National Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress that people in Tamale do not need an interchange.

According to Mr. Ahiagbah, the observation of the NDC National Women’s Organizer is baseless considering the fact that Tamale is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country.

In an interview with Peacefmonline.com, he noted that “with a rapidly growing population, Tamale has become the next business destination for many multinational and Ghanaian companies since most neighboring countries ply the roads in the metropolis”.

The boost in commercial activity, to him, has increased pressure on the city’s infrastructure and also limited space in Tamale, hence the construction of an interchange will ease traffic congestion and open up the city for economic growth.

He stated the argument by Dr. Bissiw is a politically orchestrated idea to downplay the importance of the interchange.

However, Dr. Bissiw in an interview on Radio Tamale before the Inter-Party Resistance against the new biometric voters’ register last Friday, said the GHC 443 million allocated to the Electoral Commission for the compilation of a new biometric register could have been used to rehabilitate the deplorable roads in the Region.

She added that the people are in the dire need of good drinking water, proper educational facilities and a better livelihood.

“I don’t even think that we in Tamale will say we need the interchange. We would say give us good water, give us good schools for our children to attend; give us good livelihood because that’s what we want”, she fumed.
