Airbus Scandal: Stop Defending The Defenseless; Mahama Must Apologize – NPP Deputy Com. Director

Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mame Yaa Aboagye has called on former President John Dramani Mahama to apologize to Ghanaians for his alleged involvement in the bribery scandal of Airbus.

According to a ruling by the Crown Court in United Kingdom, some government officials in the erswhile late President Atta Mills and John Mahama administrations were involved in the bribery scandal.

The Guardian disclosure stated that Airbus, Europe’s largest aerospace multinational, was found guilty by a High Court in London for paying huge bribes in “Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Taiwan and Ghana to secure contracts between 2009 and 2015″.

With regard to Ghana, the report revealed that the planemaker, according to Section 7 of UK’s Bribery Act 2010, “between 2009 and 2015 engaged intermediary 5, a close relative of a high-ranking elected Ghanaian government official (Government Official 1), as its BP in respect of the proposed sale of three aircraft to the government of Ghana. 

Mame Yaa Aboagye reacting asked the opposition NDC to stop defending the defenseless at the center of the scandal that occurred under the Mills-Mahama administration according to her has dent the image of Ghana.

She wondered why the former President and  the NDC are trying so hard to defend Mr. Mahama and his cronies when their corruption tag is visible to all Ghanaians.

She cited cases like Mahama Ford Expedition deal, SADA, SUBA, Bus branding and Woyome judgment debt scandal among others indicate that corruption has taken roots in former President Mahama and his cronies.

She advised the opposition party to aid the Special Prosecutor in bringing the culprits to book.
