Attacks on celebrities unfortunate – UFC

imagesThe United Cadres’ Front (UCF) of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned derogatory comments made by some supporters of the party against the intended ‘dumsor vigil’ being organized by some celebrities.

Some celebrities who are organising a vigil against the current power crisis have faced some verbal attacks from members of the governing NDC including; Stephen Atubiga, Alhaji Haruna Alidu, and Ras Mubarak.

The Cadres argue that though they are not in support of the vigil, they believe every Ghanaian is entitled to exercise their rights.

Speaking to Citi News, Secretary of the United Cadres Front, Efanam Komla Nyaku Felix said the group is “saddened by the recent attacks on artistes who have decided to go on a vigil…In as much as we are against those who are verbally abusing them, we are not endorsing their demonstration.”

They called on NDC sympathizers to cease making such derogatory remarks and asked that persons who wish to make such statements should not hide behind the party.

Komla Nyaku however opined that the celebrities have failed to interrogate the real cause of the power crisis but have rather resolved to embark on a vigil.

“The issues have to do with what is the cause of the dumsor. Unfortunately, they have not bothered to interrogate the cause of the dumsor. If they had interrogated the cause of the dumsor, one would have thought that they will come out with alternatives to the dumsor other than what government is doing.”

According to him, he is unsure if the celebrities spearheading the vigil know that the “dumsor is not the creation of the present administration but it was the lack of foresight, planning and the absence right approach and attitude towards our energy situation.”

Komla Nyaku added that if the organizers are bent on embarking on the procession, “then Ghanaians must allow them to do it…because it is clear that they are doing the demonstration in pursuit of an agenda rather than getting a solution and it is for this reason Ghanaians should allow them just as any other person who will go.”

“Whether they are doing it on the shoulders of somebody or a group or another political party, we in the UCF can only wish them well.”
