First Lady celebrates her friend Ayeyi
The First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Rebecca Akufo Addo has celebrated her friend, the little Ayeyi with brittle nones.
Ayeyi was born with a brittle bone condition which makes her bones easy to break with little twist or turn. The little girl in an interview with TV last year said her biggest dream was to meet the first lady of the Republic of Ghana, a dream that came true for her last year, June.
Mrs. Akufu Addo is today celebrating her friend Ayeyi and all other people living with such conditions.
“On June 6, 2019, I met and struck up a friendship with the beautiful, inspirational Ayeyi Yiadom-Boakye. Ayeyi was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, otherwise known as Brittle Bones disease. This is a lifelong genetic disorder that causes bones to break very easily, usually without any type of injury.
It also poses enormous emotional, psychosocial, financial, and educational challenges for families with members suffering from the disorder. So I encourage all of us to support such families.
Today, May 6, is Wishbone day. It is a day to celebrate individuals with brittle bones, like my friend Ayeyi and create awareness about Osteogenesis Imperfecta. The colour of today’s celebration is YELLOW, which stands for optimism and a positive attitude. I hope many more people will meet Ayeyi. You would not meet a more positive person. Her appreciation of life simply astounds me. So today let’s all celebrate Ayeyi and all individuals, living with brittle bones disease, with a spot of yellow.”
