Ghetto K.B. set to end Ghana’s Grammy Awards drought

After decades of churning out world-class talents in the music industry, Ghana is yet to produce a wholly home-grown Grammy Award winner, but a new Ghanaian artiste is determined to end the drought as he sets eyes on the highly priced awards.

Kwabena Buahin, popularly known on stage as Ghetto K.B., though not restricted to one particular genre of music, is deemed by many to be one of the greatest ambassadors of the emerging afrobeat music.

He told Myjoyonline.com “Ghana is blessed with talents but cursed with improper management”. He is, however, hoping to apply his knowledge in computing to track royalties for musicians so they can enjoy the proceeds of their hardwork when used by consumers.

Touted as someone with a “perfectionist attitude towards lyricism”, Ghetto K.B. said he is “looking forward to all of the greatest musical accolades including Ghana Music Awards, BET and Grammy Awards”.

“Undoubtedly, he was destined for the art, being a prominent member of his School’s Music, Art and Drama Clubs, at a very young age, staging poetry, drama and Music Performances to thrill audiences. By age twelve he was already a TV star playing lead roles in a popular TV series called ‘By the fire Side’,” Jason Gyamfi, a member of his management team told Myjoyonline.com.

Ghetto K.B. had his basic education at the Seven Great Princes School in Dansoman, secondary education at PRESEC, Legon and went on to study mathematical science at the University of Ghana, Legon.

He recorded his first demo at High School, staging performances in most schools in Ghana. After High School he landed his first professional recording contract with Limelyte Music having spotted his blossoming rap career.

He also had a two-year stint with XL Music in Dansoman where he grew up, releasing successive singles and helping popularised hiphop music in a hi-life dominated industry. He also collaborated with prominent artistes like Samini, Obrafuor, Stoneboy, Charlie P, Kaakie but to mention a few.

He had a brief spell with Snipers Music group based in the UK and got back to Extra Large Music where his career begun to take shape commercially, with the release of radio singles such as Bills On Me, Number One, Radio, One Night Stand, and In Da Club, he continues to get a lot of following on social media, loads of downloads and airplay.

He recalled sharing the same stage with international acts like Akon and Shaggy, as well as performing at the Joy FM Nite with the Stars.
