I am fit to be Nana Addo’s running mate – A-Plus

Controversial musician, A-Plus has waded into the controversy surrounding the search for a running mate for NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo declaring that he is capable of partnering Nana Addo.

According to A-Plus, he is competent for the position of a running mate just like any other person.

But the outspoken musician and sometimes comedian says, even though he possesses all the qualities of a running mate, he has not decided on taking active part in politics nor is he going to sing for any political party in 2012.

Speaking to Adom Entertainment News, A-Plus said his main objective for 2012 is to promote unity so staying neutral will help facilitate his vision.

He also played down on the perception that musicians who involve themselves in politics are adversely affected in terms of sales and even their fan base adding that he has never regretted affiliating himself to Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2008 elections. “Nana Addo rather made me popular,” he said.

As has been his usual tradition of coming out with politically themed songs before elections, A-Plus has released a new single, Yekeka which is currently enjoying a fair amount of airplay.

The song features hiplife group, Mframa, and catalogs some of the major events that made headlines like the Woyome saga, the gargantuan crimes purported to have been committed by some NDC gurus as alleged by the Former attorney General, Martin Amidu, the rift between President Mills and former president Rawlings among others.

A Plus said the song was written by a panel made up of politicians from all the political divides and some major players in the entertainment industry.

Answering a question on whether or not he sometimes feels threatened about the songs he writes, A-Plus said he sometimes feel uneasy when he listens to some of the songs but that does not sway him from his work.

“I write songs not to intimidate people but rather to highlight the lighter side of Ghanaian politics and other important issues that arise in the country just to create humor,” said A- Plus.

He added that that he knows he is not loved by some politicians because of the songs he writes but he thinks ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas is more wanted than him.

He cited Anas’ recent exposé about the maladministration, massive corruption and plain stealing at the Electricity Company of Ghana resulting in losses of millions of Ghana Cedis, the maltreatment of orphans at the Osu Children’s Home and the Tema Port extortion saga as some of the reasons Anas may have more enemies than him.
