I bleached because I thought black is ugly and dirty – Mzbel.

Popular songstress and provocative dresser – Mzbel who is noted for her hit track ’16 years’ has become one of the few female artistes in Ghana to cement their place in showbiz.

The controversial diva who picked up a fuss with Nana Ama McBrown because of Mr. Maxwell Mensah who happens to be the latter’s current husband and the former’s ex-boyfriend is in the news again. Mzbel has revealed why she bleached her skin sometime ago.

Reacting to her bleaching motives, she had this to say:

“I used to think I was ugly. I thought being black is dirty, so I took to skin bleaching and suffered horrible side effects years later. But that is the result of self-hate.

I shared my story and got help, now I’ve learned to say: ‘You know what? I am a beautiful black woman. FanteKrobo, 100% Ghanaian”, she concluded.

She isn’t the first black celebrity to be accused and/or noticed of chasing after a white skin over that of her original black skin. Famous people like Michael Jackson, Becca, Nana Ama Boahemaa, Yvonne Nelson and others have all passed through this street before.
