I have not appointed my running mate – John Mahama

The running mate’s  position has become as essential as the flag bearer’s. The campaign  support and the votes they add to their candidates cannot be downplayed.

The Presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr.John Dramani Mahama has yet again debunked rumors that he has settles on Hon.Eric Opoku as his mate.

He quickly took to his Facebook page to deny the news.

“Yet another fake news.
Reports that I have settled on and announced a running mate for the 2020 elections are false.

Let’s continue to take precaution and help #stopthespread of COVID-19. Wash your hands as frequently as you can, especially after touching a commonly used surface or object. And please wash your hands with soap and under running water.#Safehands”  he wrote

Since he was elected as the leader of the NDC, he has come under some pressure to name his running mate mainly from his opponents in the NDC.

Since the call seems to be falling on deaf ears, they have been naming and circulating people on social media as persons who have been appointed to  partner the former president to election 2020 to wrestle power from the ruling New Patriotic Party.

The first name that came up was Professor Kwesi Botchwey, the longest serving Finance Minister in Ghana cadre. The NDC swiftly came out to deny the news and called it palpable falsehood.

Then, later came Professor Jane Naana Opoku. The first female Vice Chancellor in Ghana, Former VC of University of Cape coast and former Minister for Education.  The woman who came into front line politics in 2013, after she successfully moderated the Presidential debate organised by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) was appointed the steer the affairs of the nation’s education sector.

Other names that have come up as potential running mates are the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah popularly known as General Mosquito, Hon. Dr. Zenator Rawings, the daughter of the founder of the party fmr. Prez J.J. Rawlings.

But all these names have been denied by the former president. This week Prophet Nigel Gaisie, the man who  has prophesied a one-touch victory for John Mahama advised him on Metro TV not to announce his running mate now.
