“I Thought Kaakie Was Jamaican”

270432956_572874Namibian radio presenter and Big Brother: The Chase housemate Maria Nepembe says she was shocked to find out that celebrated Dancehall queen Kaakie is Ghanaian and not Jamaican.

“I am a radio presenter and I once played her song accidentally; I liked the song so I played it again and again and then kept playing it. It was until she performed at the BBA last week that I saw her and realised she was a Ghanaian. All this while, I thought she was Jamaican. She is good,” Maria said during an interview on GhOne Television.

The Namibian radio presenter is not the first entertainment pundit to have mistaken Kaakie for a Jamaican.

The singer is an excellent Dancehall artiste whose mane and music is bigger than her face and image even in her home country.

Until the beginning of this year, not many Ghanaians had seen a photograph of Kaakie, although her songs are very popular across the country and beyond. She however has started the first quarter of 2013 on a good note after being nominated twice in this year’s Ghana Music Awards and has also released a new video for ‘Too Much’, her second professional single.

Kaakie was nominated for New Artiste of the Year in this year’s awards. She also got nominated for the Best Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year with her song ‘Toffee Pon Tongue’ (Obolo Obolo).

The ‘Too Much’ music video features Kaakie sporting a fish tail style Mohawk braided hair at the sides. Kaakie, in the video, is seen being driven in a yacht by a sexy male as she flaunts her curves, thighs and tans her body in the sun. She is later seen flaunting her curves at an indoor swimming pool and riding behind her “man” on a motor as they head to a dance off.

The video ends with Kaakie attracting the attention of all the men at a dance off, pissing off other ladies.

Kaakie’s first year in the Ghanaian music industry has been very impressive, after successfully releasing six songs that all went on to become big radio hits. Kaakie got nominated for and won YFM’s Best New Artiste of the Year at the Loud in Gh’ concert. She was again adjudged the Best Female Artiste of 2012 by Joy FM. Kaakie is beginning to attract attention in Africa, so the video obviously would help assert the attention she is drawing.
