OheneMedia Launches Partnership With Google

159488232_216643Accra based production house OheneMedia (OM), has officially launched its partnership with Google.

The Google YouTube –OheneMedia Partnership which started last year allows OM to upload and monetize Ghanaian content on YouTube.

Explaining how the process works, CEO of OM Abraham Ohene Djan, said last year, Google, owners of YouTube through meetings arranged by Kofi Tsikata of the World Bank Ghana office, gave OM a platform to monetize Ghanaian content on YouTube.

“After several months of meetings, Google gave us an opportunity to have adverts placed on our online version of Fiesta called FiestaGh. At the same time they also gave us a platform to create channels for content makers who want to have adverts placed on their channel with our Adsence account.

And so over the past few months, with a system in place to track individual view on each video and its revenue through online advertising, our platform started generating revenue for all parties involved that is; Google, Ohenemedia (Fiesta GH) and the Content owners”

He said “Contrary to popular belief we (OM) have not been given a pot of money by Google to share to content owners. Just like our TV channel it is an opportunity for us to generate advertising income with the content artistes have brought to us in order to support our business and our course of promoting and supporting local music financially no matter how small.”

He said artistes and content owners who did not want their content monetized have the chance to exclude themselves from the platform.
Mr. Ohene Djan stressed that the platform was not solely to monetize music and that anyone who had something to show the world could also upload and monetize on YouTube and also called on corporate entities to advertise online as this would increase the funds generated.
He said though a lot of Ghanaian content was available on YouTube only a few content creators and owners were receiving payment for their work.

As part of promoting Ghanaian music on YouTube, a 30 minutes Video Chart Show (VCS) would also be rolled out. The VCS which would be aired on selected TV stations across the country is also to encourage music lovers to visit YouTube.

Mr. Kofi Tsikata, a Senior Communication Specialist at the World Bank Ghana Office, commended OM for promoting and supporting the music industry over the years and advised musicians and content owners to play their part in ensuring that the payment process is transparent.

Present at the launch were Daddy Bosco, Gospel musician OJ, Lady Prempeh, Okyeame Kwame, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Ben Brako, Tina Asante, Ohemaa Mercy, Obuor, Original Afia Schwarzenegger, Tic Tac, Black Prophet, upcoming artiste Chupa and several other players in the entertainment industry.
