For the twentieth time this year, the president of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has addressed the nation on measures being taken to combat the Novel Coronavirus. For the last time probably this year, the president outlined how Ghanaians can be extra careful to share their businesses, jobs, normal life and other stuff with their families without endangering their lives with any infection.
For some reasons, most Ghanaians expected the clubs, cinemas and other vital part of the “weekend enjoyment” to be opened but Akufo-Addo disappointed once again.
According to his latest address, the clubs, borders and other places still remain closed because of the surge in the COVID-19 cases. Like how? The cases never escalated in the electioneering year whilst they gallivanted up and down with their NPP/NDC campaigns to solicit for the votes of Ghanaians?
This is an obvious sign that politicians in Africa care about only elections and nothing else. With the elections, they were prepared to sacrifice everything no matter what happened but immediately after the elections, they have realized how severe the COVID-19 is? Who does that?
Is this the best way for the politicians to always show how they are above the law in all circumstances? It is just surprising to those who feel that politicians should know better and must act fairly in all facets of their governance.
It just beats my primitive mind for them to act this way. Why should these happenings be seen and acted upon only when there is no serious electioneering moment? During the Dec 7 voting, no COVID-19 severity was detected and subsequent ban placed on it, but, as soon as the elections were over, they now see the need to put in stringent measures to curtail the spread of the virus.
What do you make of this?
