The Funny Inscriptions On Landmarks We Saw In Our Childhood


One of the main reasons why people write controversial,jovial and absurd inscriptions on landmarks such as on church premises, residential areas, signposts and so on is to make the place an easy ‘target’ or a place where all and sundry will readily keep in mind.

Whilst growing up in Effiekuma No. 9, Sekondi – Takoradi (Kofi Kinata’s neighbourhood) there were many ‘writings’ on kiosks, houses, stores and the likes that were so funny to read twice! This and many other stuff made our childhood a very memorable one…

With what has been used for this featured image on this article, the funny thing is that, as a Fante I laughed real hard as soon as I chanced upon it on Facebook. The inscription written there reads — “Maame Akua Dzi Me Hwe Memorial House”, which is directly translated as ” Maame Akua Chop Me or Fvck Me And See or Testify”.

I do not know what might have transpired for the owner of this house to opt for such an inscription on his or her house. But I can conclude that this is linked to one hell of an issue!
