The Struggles For The Sake Of Bread

Happy Farmers’ Day to our food providers and thumbs up to them for today’s holiday. Surprisingly, as teachers, we go to school on Teachers’ Day but we’re given a holiday on Farmers’ Day…(this is Ghana for you !)

Thanks to the farmers, teachers are free from the pupils’ countless complaints, marking of exercises and other tiresome engagements just for today.

Well, I decided to take a stroll on the streets of one of the biggest markets in Africa – the Techiman Market.

Just some few hours ago, as I was wandering around aimlessly, something peculiar caught my attention !

The hustle and bustle of these market folks just to be able to fend for themselves simply pinched my witfulness.

For the sake of bread, people are seen moving helter skelter for their daily routine.

What further caught my attention was a cobbler shop that had been opened as early as 6:00am for their usual business.

I couldn’t resist but ask their candid permission to take these photos of them for this write up.

I quickly (though uninvited) engaged them in a chitchat and they revealed how they go through these cumbersome activities on daily basis just to make a few coins for their upkeep.

So, remember that the hustle is real everywhere : all for the sake of bread !!!
