Tyga explains album snag with Martin Luther King Jnr’s estate

Young Money rapper, Tyga, whose second studio album release date hit a snag because of an objection by the estate of the late Human Rights activist, Martin Luther King Jnr has been explaining what stalled the album release.

The artiste, born Michael Ray Nguyen-Stevenson, had to recall his album, Careless World: Rise Of the Last King, which was supposed to be released on February 21 because of objections raised by the activist’s estate over a Martin Luther King sample he used in the first song on the album, Careless World without approval.

The YMCMB rapper speaking in an interview on 106 & Park on BET explained that he was disappointed by the recall – of over 200,000 copies – and it was rather unfortunate that it was due to his bid to reecho the message of the famous activist.

He said the recall was due to “a Martin Luther King sample that I put on there,” explaining that “the reason why I put Martin Luther King on it is because I felt that a lot of my generation maybe younger artistes like myself heard of Martin Luther King but they don’t really know the struggle that he did …

“the message he was trying to get to younger artiste like myself or younger black people that’s why I put that on that certain track and for his people not clear it, they kind of let me down because I was really trying to send a message.”

Nevertheless, Tyga who appeared on the cover of The Source Magazine in February stressed that “the album is so great and I’m so confident [in] the work. I put my heart into I know it is going to be good.”

Tyga – which means Thank You God Always – is of Vietnamese and Jamaican descent and is currently signed to Young Money Entertainment, Cash Money Records and Universal Republic Records.

Tyga’s first album, No Introduction was released on June 10, 2008, on Decaydance Records. Diamond Life, a song on the album was used in the video game Need for Speed: Undercover, and in the movie Fighting released in 2009.

He is currently on tour performing at about 50 shows across the US.
