We Must Use Good Content!

imagesJustice Oteng of drum line studios on pluzzfm today spoke strongly against the content of most Ghanaian musicians. He opined that most of the Ghanaian music contain filthy words which are not relevant to our society. Their aim is to entertain but not to lose sight of this and start putting words that don’t make much sense. Oteng explained that mostly Ghanaian music lyrics is about sex, fraud or ridicule. We must stick to our social standards as Ghanaian in our music and represent a brand to the outside world.

Oteng gave an example that he was asked to explain lyrics of songs to some foreigners and one of them was so disappointed and asked why Ghanaian s don’t do better with their lyrics. He pointed out that the engineers are churning out good tunes but the lyrics are nothing to write home about. He advised that musicians should sit and write good lyrics or adapt the services of someone who is well vexed in the act to assist them. They mustn’t take advantage of the good tunes and put anything out there because most people just want something to groove on.
This comes back to the same point that Barima Sidney made when we interviewed him. He said due to the economic struggles people just want something to groove on and don’t pay much attention to the lyrics. He also said that musicians are not producing good musician terms of lyrics.
