Ama K, Girls Guide fight skin bleaching

The partnership would see the selection of some of the members of the association as ambassadors of the campaign.

At a meeting with some of the executives of the association last Tuesday, Ama K explained the reason for partnering the Girls Guide Association.

“ I see a correlation between “I love My Natural Skin” campaign, which is aimed at building the confidence of black women to maintain their natural skin colour and the association’s “Free Being Me” campaign, hence the need to “join forces” to promote a worthy cause.

“It’s a self-love campaign and not a judgmental one to point fingers at people. The aim is to get many young women to appreciate their skin colour and I know the Girls Guide has a bigger platform to serve the purpose.

“These ambassadors will work hand in hand with the celebrity ambassadors to give prominence to the campaign,” she stated.

She cautioned people to not use body creams and lotions that they are not sure of their contents, remarking, “When in doubt, just use shea butter or cocoa butter or a cream you are sure will not bleach your skin”.

Mrs Alberta Mensah who represented the Girls Guide Association said her outfit is delighted at the partnership.

“We are happy at this partnership and we will put in all the efforts we can to project the message of not toning or bleaching our skin. It’s important we build the confidence of people to take pride in what they have,” she said.

The “I love My Natural Skin Tone” campaign which started in July of this year has celebrities such as actress Nana Ama McBrown, singer Paulina Oduro and former Miss Malaika queen and model Hamamat Montia as ambassadors.
