AWOONOR TO BE HONOURED WITH A PERFORMANCE
On the 28th June, 2015, the Pan African Writer’s Association (PAWA) House is set to host a spectacular historical poetry event after. It would be an enactment of Oswald Okaitei’s poetry collection, A WREATH TO AWOONOR (Revised edition) which is finely woven to elegise and eulogise the late Ghanaian International poetry legend—Professor Kofi Awoonor—whose untimely demise was met in Kenya.
According to the fast rising young Ghanaian poet who has won three international recognition in the field of poetry and who doubles as a Playwright/Artistic Director, Oswald, the idea behind this all-important event is to firstly honour Professor Kofi Awoonor for his immense contribution towards putting the Ghanaian/African poetry on the international scene and again promote the enactment of poetry like it is with plays in Ghana. Oswald is popularly known for his beautiful folkloric poetry and wonderful plays as IN THE BAG OF A WOMAN, IN MAN’S LIBIDO…, BEAUTYFUL NONSENSE and WHO STOLE THE CASKET?
A WREATH TO AWOONOR is set in a typical Ghanaian village (Wheta) and is directed to make everyone present always want to be present at any poetry production: it combines poetry performance with songs and tunes of the flute and acoustic.
One important aspect of the evening would be the launch of the book.
Dignitaries that are going to grace this event include Hon. Aabla Dzifa Gomashie (Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture &Creative Arts), Professor Akilagpa Sawyer, Dr. Mawuli Aadzei, Mr. Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng, Dr. Gheysika Agambila, Hon. Koku Ayidoho, Kwesi Pratt Jr., Ex. Sgt Akatapore, family members of the late Prof. Kofi Aawoonor among others. There’s no gate fee and so everyone is entreated to be present on the said date by 3:30pm to be part of this historical poetry project.
