High Life Originated From The Carribean – Ruff And Smooth

imagesRuff and Smooth is a Ghanaian Afro-pop musical duo consisting of two men, Ricky Nana Agyeman and Clement Baafo. Akan a member of the music group duo Rough and Smooth stated that high life originated from the Caribbean and not from Nigeria or Ghana as others believe. He didn’t give any point to buttress the point he made but just correct others. He was in an interview to explain the meaning of their new single Tolotolo baby which featured Wizboy. He said Tolotolo baby means a woman with African values.
The reaction came after entertainment pundits gave their views about the song during the judgment board session. They opined that the song was dominated by the Nigerian musician even though he was just featuring and sounded more like the song was for Wizboy. The pundits also suggested that they should have used a Ghanaian term for the title rather than “Tolotolo Baby”. They also said that there was nothing Ghanaian about the song and sounded more like a Nigerian song. They elaborated that it’s an Afro Pop song which originated from Nigeria but doesn’t mean that when doing Afro Pop it must sound Nigerian. They then made reference to the fact that High life originated from Nigeria but it has become more Ghanaian than Nigerian so our musicians should make Afro Pop Ghanaian to project our country and its values.
After making his submission the pundits on pluzz fm corrected him that he was very wrong for saying it and should know his facts. Selly one of the Pundits said he must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed to say High Life Originated from the Carribean. Ghana showbiz interviewed a few Ibo Nigerians, they explained that it’s a Slang For chicken so when a girl is referred to as “Tolotolo Baby” it means the girl is skinny and tinny as chicken. This explanation is very contrary to the explanation Akan of Ruff and Smooth Gave about “tolotolo”.
