I am happy we can now build our new chamber because of coronavirus – Speaker of Parliament

One of the most popular hashtags last year was ‘#DROPTHATCHANBER’.  It was birthed to fight against the intention of parliament to construct a new Chamber for parliamentary work in Ghana. The two sides of the house unanimously came together to fight for their collective interest.

 

Ghanaians were peeved when they heard parliament was about to construct a new chamber with huge sums of money while their constituents were lacking basic needs like water, school, and hospitals.

The idea was aborted after they realized they had no support from the citizens.

The speaker of parliament has claimed that this is the right time for Ghanaians to see the need for them to have a new chamber.

 

Speaking on Monday, Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye revealed that the house has plans of relocating to Accra International Conference Centre temporarily as it will give them a better spacious scene as social distancing has become the order of the day in preventing the Coronavirus disease.

“As the Majority Leader suggested, the other day, we are in the process of making all relevant arrangements if we can relocate temporarily to the conference centre…and carry on. Maybe, this would make people realise that Parliament is in need of a more spacious place,”
