I haven’t contradicted myself – Manasseh fires NPP supporters
Award-winning journalist, Manasseh Awuni Azure has come under attack from NPP supporters for criticizing the Electoral commission today. They shared a post he made in 2016 calling them out for demanding a new voter’s register. In 2016, he said the electoral commission could not rig elections, against his current position that the EC is working to favor the NPP government.
“To the NPP followers who are sharing my 2016 post:In 2016, I disagreed with your party’s agitation for a new register. In 2020 I still disagree with your argument for a new register. In my current write up, in which I targeted the EC, I referred to your argument in the past, which I said you had rehashed. So if you’re sharing my 2016 post, you haven’t said anything. I haven’t contradicted myself. I said in 2016 that the voters’ register was not as bad as you wanted us to believe. I said if you worked hard you would win the election with that register. If you didn’t tell Ghanaians your message and what you had for us, even Dr. Bawumia as an EC chair could not deliver a victory for you.
I said the register was more credible than the past registers with which you won two elections. With the register you bastardised in 2016, you still won massively. I was against your position that we needed a new register. I’m still against it.
What I wrote in 2016 does not contradict my disagreement with the Electoral Commission, which is bent on compiling a new register at all costs. The EC today is doing what you were agitating for in 2016. So condemning the EC for doing what I spoke against in the past is not contradiction. It’s consistency” he wrote on his facebook page.
