As kids, we were taught that ‘religion’ is the beliefs we hold in a particular deity (it could be Allah, God, Buddha or whatever it’s to you) !

Surprising, according to our various religious divides, we have many deities but the same (only one) enemy – Satan or Devil.

How do we get religious? This can be likened to being in school. Teachers serve as facilitators or people who prepare and teach us to go through the system.

So, in religion, some designated leaders such as pastors, imams, caliphs, fetish priests or whatever they are to you serve as those who guide their respective deity’s followers to the ‘Supreme God’ (I used this because I couldn’t find a definite pronoun for the deity – whether to use him or her🤔).

In Africa, Christianity has taken a very deep dive into too much spirituality to the extent that ‘some’ pastors are found of just doing the “unthinkable”, all in the name of worshipping God !

Various pictures and videos have gone round in the past with pastors asking their members to do weirdos like drinking dangerous chemicals, eating grasses, walking around naked and so forth as a way of a spiritual direction.

The latest spiritual direction from a pastor to hit the internet is just mind boggling. The video displays the pastor dipping his very naked self into a drum filled with water. After that he asked his members to take turns in drinking the ‘unhygienic’ water from the drum to fortify themselves against evil.

Kudos to some pastors for their genuine works but I think it’s time for them to speak against those that are disgracing the entire pastoral profession !!!
