Should floods dictate to us on daily basis ?

Town planners have always developed the layouts of our countryside. Whilst these professionals strive to ensure the beautification of the towns, they also look at the requisite safety measures in our layouts.

Most countries have put in place the necessary measures to ensure that their drainage system is quite favourable in rainy seasons. Nature is one aspect of our being that cannot be manipulated entirely but could be harnessed for profitable gains (for example saving excessive rains for irrigation purposes).

In our parts of the world, floods may seem as one of the greatest disasters. Ghanaians have always decried the poor drainage system in the country. Whilst others blame the behavioural pattern of the populace, others point accusing fingers at the authorities for their inability to crack the whip on people who build without proper documentations.

The sudden change in climatic issues this month has led to flooding in the Tema Motor Way for instance and a lot of lives and properties have also gone down the drain across the country.

Yesterday, the University of Cape Coast for instance had to suspend lectures for this same reason.

The question is simple: why should we sit aloof for floods to destroy our daily plans ?
