Many global institutions and businesses were shut down after the outbreak of coronavirus with the hope of coming back after the virus goes away. These high hopes are gradually beginning to lose its flavor as they are meeting reality now.
The World Health Organization held a media briefing in Geneva yesterday to discuss updates on the global pandemic Ghanashowbiz.com has gathered. Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO’s health emergency program, disclosed that, Coronavirus may join the other many diseases like HOV/AIDS and malaria to live with us forever.
“This virus just may become another endemic virus in our communities and this virus may never go away. HIV hasn’t gone away. I’m not comparing the two diseases but I think it is important that we’re realistic. I don’t think anyone can predict when or if this disease will disappear.” he said.
He further stated that even if we develop a vaccine for it, it may not get to across the world overnight it would take time before.
“We may have a shot at eliminating this virus but that vaccine will have to be available, it will have to be highly effective, it will have to be made available to everyone and we’ll have to use it. This disease may settle into a long-term problem or it may not.” Ryan stated.
Ghana’s Minister of Health today hints during their press briefing that COVID-19 may not go now, so Ghanaians should stop the spread.
