Weeding as a punishment has made farming unattractive – UCC Prof.
As students, we used to flout school’s rules and regulations either knowingly or unknowingly. And as soon as one flouts school’s directives, he or she is not even given the chance to produce any explanations.
Back in the O’ Level and/or A’ Level and secondary school days, weeding as a punishment was very common. Some of us had lots of blisters in our palms because of how rigid some of the ‘machete handles’ were.
According to Kwame Osei’s report for JoyNews, a popular agriculture professor in the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has suggested the cancellation of weeding as a corporal punishment in all Ghanaian schools. According to Professor Elvis Asare Bediako, Current Dean – School of Agriculture at UCC, farming in Ghana is very unattractive for the youths because of how some of them were forced to weed as punishments in schools.
He has further pleaded with the government to find lucrative ways of making farming a promising venture for all the youths in Ghana.
How many times were you punished to weed back in the days…?
