‘Women on Fire’ opens to public

imagesPlaywright  Ebo Whyte and his Roverman Production team last Thursday thrilled the audience at the National Theatre who came to witness the premiere of his latest play, “Women on Fire”.

The fourth play by Roverman Production this year, after “Make Me a Woman Tonight”, “Games Men Play “and “Unforgiven”, the take-off time for “Women On Fire” was briefly delayed because of a power outage at the National Theatre.

The play highlights the diverse social backgrounds of women in the society. Like most of Uncle Ebo Whyte’s productions, he manages to highlight important societal issues while keeping the audience entertained and glued to the edge of their seats and “Women on Fire” is no different.

It tells the story of Sika, a master’s degree holder who decides to sell at the market after completing university instead of opting for a comfortable office job. With her academic background and knowledge, Sika puts into practice what she learnt in school to make a success out of her trading.

As the story unfolds, we find out why Sika decides to sell in the market and why Mayor Johnson has an axe to grind with her. The play explores some important themes such as politics, forgiveness, corruption and hatred.

“Women on Fire” opens to the general public today, Saturday and tomorrow, Sunday as well as  December 6 and 7 at the National Theatre. The play is being sponsored by Airtel Ghana.
