Africa’s billionaires you probably didn’t know

2014 was a good year for this group of people who made serious bank. Africa’s 2014 billionaires may be rich but not all of them are well known

Take a look at the list which originally appeared in Forbes earlier this year, and feel free to use it as motivation to hustle harder in 2015.

1) Aliko Dangote is reportedly worth $25 billion – that’s a cool 9 billion richer than the Nigerian billionaire was last year selon Forbes. Africa’s richest man made his cash producing cement, milling flour and refining sugar to name a few.

2) Johann Rupert and family join the list with a $7.6 billion empire. The South African owns Compagnie Financiere Richemont (that Cartier ring your girlfriend wants? Yup, he owns the parent company).

3)  Diamonds aren’t just a girl’s best friend, they have made this South African family a fortune. Nicky Oppenheimer and Family were South Africa’s original diamond tycoons. The company is reportedly worth $6.7 billion (after selling their 40% De Beers stake in 2012).

4) Orascom construction’s CEO, Nassef Sawiris, is worth $6.7 billion. The Egyptian is worth the same amount as Nicky Oppenheimer and family.

5) This Nigerian billionaire is known for his wealth and reclusiveness. Worth $4.6 billion, Mike Adenuga is the Globacom founder and also makes money from oil under his company, Conoil Producing.

6) Africa’s richest woman and President Eduardo Dos Santo’s daughter, Isabel Dos Santos, is worth $3.7 billion. The Angolan Unitel International Holding President also made the 2014 Choiseul 100 Africa’s listof economic leaders to note.

7) Issad Rebrab is Algeria’s richest man with a whooping $3.2 billion. He is part of the biggest family-owned business in his country. Cevital trades in auto distribution, mining, agriculture to name a few business pursuits.

8) South African Christoffel Wiese is the man behind the Shoprite supermarket chain and worth $3.2 and has assets in a hotel, in discount fashion brands to name a few.

9) He is the Swazi national said to be worth S3.1 billion. Nathan Kirsh is the Jetro Holding founder which is a wholesaler for grocery shops.

10) Mohamed Mansourowns the largest General Motors (GM) Dealership in the world with his siblings: Yasseen and Youssef. He is valued at $3.1 billion.

11) He founded the Free Egypt Party after President Mubarak was overthrown in 2011. Naguib Sawiris is the Egyptian investor who is worth $2.8 billion and made his money in the telecommunications industry.

12) Patrice Motsepe made history as South Africa’s first black billionaire. He is worth $2.7 billion, studied law and owns African Rainbow Minerals.

13) He is the CEO of BMCE Banks, has a holding company, FinanceCom, and controls a money management firm in Paris. Othman Benjelloun is the Moroccan business man valued at $2.7 billion.

14) Folorunsho Alakija is the Nigerian billionaire who went to fashion school in London, but made her riches in the oil business. Alakija owns Famfa Oil and she is worth $2.7 billion.
