Akufo-Addo Has Built More School Infrastructure In 3 Years Than NDC Did In 8 Years

The introduction of the flagship as well as pro-poor programme, Free S.H.S has ushered in a massive improvement in the infrastructural needs of Ghanaian schools.

With over 1.2 million Ghanaian children being educated under the Free SHS vehicle, there was the need to build more classrooms, dormitories and other facilities in senior high schools to take care of the huge numbers.

The Double Track became a necessity as a result of the mismatch between students’ population and the existing infrastructure in the senior high schools.

Over the past two years, the Akufo-Addo administration has built more classroom buildings, dormitories and other amenities than the regime preceding this administration.

It is safe to conclude that a lot more infrastructural projects have been undertaken by this government in three years than even the E-Blocks the NDC constructed in eight years.

While the NDC has been preaching that government should finish with its infrastructural drive before implementing the Free SHS policy, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo believes that those children cannot wait and the country could not wait for these children to ‘go waste’. It was, therefore, imperative that the policy had to take off in 2017.

The Free Senior High School is arguably the single most biggest pro-poor policy in Ghana in so many years as its impact goes beyond the present.

It is against this backdrop that the administration of President Akufo-Addo saw it needful to inject huge sums of money into infrastructure for these senior high schools.

It must be emphasized that these increased levels in infrastructure have contributed to many schools ending Double Track.
