Asogli state revs up for Yam Festival

As the chiefs and people of the Asogli state gather this morning near the Nurses Training School junction at Ho in the Volta Region for the customary inauguration of this year’s Asogli yam festival, a more sombre mood than the recent official launch in Accra is likely to prevail.
The customary inauguration entails pouring of libation and playing of the sacred traditional drums to officially mark the beginning of the festival and participants in the event would definitely be fired up for a grand celebration which coincides with the 10th anniversary of Agbogbomefia Togbe Afede XIV on the Asogli stool.

The annual festival is celebrated for reasons which include mobilisation of both human and material resources of Asogli state for job and wealth creation and re-affirmation of allegiance by all chiefs and their subjects in the Asogli state to the Agbogbome stool.

Activities planned for the festival have been categorised into areas such as cultural activities, inaugurations, business forums, debates and educational meetings, spiritual activities, expeditions, sports and games and concerts.

Individuals and corporate bodies have positioned themselves to support the festival in various ways.

One of them is MTN. It is the official telecoms company for the festival which it has roped into its 2013 MTN Culturefest programme.
