Australian High Commissioner Worried Over How Older Women Are Treated In Ghana

The renowned Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Gregory Andrews has become overly concerned about how some old women are being treated in Ghana here with various degrees of intimidation for something they know nothing of.

Recall that a certain 90-year-old woman was subjected to inhuman treatment for allegedly confessing to be a witch. This generated a nationwide uproar with many calling for the heads of the perpetrators. True to the words of those who had advocated for the unscrupulous persons to be hauled before the law court, they were made to face the full rigours of the law.

Making his concerns known, the Australian High Commissioner poured his heart out with these words.

The Australian High Commissioner noted;

Abuse of elderly women as so-called ‘witches’ remains a serious concern in Ghana and more broadly in West Africa. Today I was briefed by Kofi, Benson, Erica and Daniel who are young Ghanaian health professionals proposing enhanced health care services for women who have been forced to seek refuge in the so-called ‘witch’ camps. If people don’t have their own good health, it’s harder for them to stand up and protect themselves from human rights abuses. So I’m looking forward to helping these young Ghanaians refine their idea to support Ghana’s vulnerable and abused women and to pitch it to other organisations too. #GenderEquity #StandWithMeGhana
