This Comfort Zone Entertainment interview session is between the interviewer (DJ Sly K) and the interviewee (herein known as Kokoo)
Background / History:
Real name is Kwame Nana Gyabaa.
From Dormaa Ahenkro and Sunyani No2. Popularly known as Kokoo – “Obiaato”. Started music with the name Kwame Nana before changing it to Kokoo.
Started at a very humble beginning with the passion to sing. Sold marijuana (Indian hemp) for about 5 years because of unemployment after completing tertiary.
Sold wee to record his first album, and also, with the little help from his mum.
Had no one to look up to or learn from so he had his mum as his role model, producer and everything.
Highest Sold Album:
No album yet but just singles as the way forward. Albums are archaic way of bringing out music.
He will be appreciative if he gets any producer on board.
Reaction Towards Music:
He sings with passion like no other person’s business. He is motivated by no one but himself.
Nominations & Awards So Far:
No nominations from VGMA yet. But other awards from district levels on Sanitation and so forth.
Collaborations with other artistes:
Guru of NKZ Fame
Strategy In Music Career:
As a musician, you ought to push yourself and not wait for others to come to your aid.
Challenges In Music:
When he started singing with ‘Bono’, he had lots of criticisms from friends and others because no Ghanaian artiste has ever used Bono in their music.
People wrongly accuse him of still dealing in wee smuggling but he has stopped after he made music breakthrough and had a few coins.
In his ending remarks, DJ Sly K entreated all listeners who missed the interview session to log on to www.ghanashowbiz.com for all the audio excerpts and the write-up.
