Provide Legal basis for removing old voter’s ID card from the C.I within 4 days – Supreme Court orders EC
The Supreme Court presided over by Chief Justice Anin Yeboah has orders the Electoral Commission to file a Legal basis for the exclusion of the old voter’s ID card as a means of identification and proof of citizenship in the new Constitutional Instrument (CI).
The Opposition National Democratic Congress is challenging the Electoral Commission at the apex court of the land over their decision to exclude voter’s ID card, birth certificate as a means of identification and sticking to Ghana card, Passport and vouching for.
The NDC argues that majority of Ghanaians do not have Ghana card and passport,hence many people would be disenfranchised if we go by the current CI that is waiting to mature on the 10th of June.
The seven-member panel was presided over by the Chief Justice, Justice Anin Yeboah. The other members of the panel were Justices Jones Dotse, Paul Baffoe Bonnie, Nasiru S. Gbadegbe, Samuel K. Marful-Sau, Nene Abayaateye Ofoe Amegatcher, and Prof. Nii Ashie Kotey.
