Fathers Admonished To Be More Involved In Their Children’s Lives.

There is a trending societal phenomenon where most fathers supposedly vanish into thin air when the going gets tough in their respective lives. Probably, this scenario is so because most successful people are inclined towards their mothers’ sacrifices than that of their fathers. Hypothetically, if 100 people were sampled to appreciate their parents, there’s a possibility of about 70 people placing their mothers’ assistance and/or availability ahead of their fathers’.

It is on this unfortunate note that a counsellor has used comedienne Emmanuella’s recent surprise house for her mother as a case study to admonish men to become more involved (financially, physically and so on) in their children’s lives.

The person’s post read;

***Emmanuella’s father is actually very much alive. But in her video, she kept saying “My mama, my mama, my mama.”

It’s like that for most Nigerian children. And that’s because of the culture that gives a man a pass as long as he donates sperm and money. He doesn’t have to be emotionally involved in his children’s wellbeing.

For a little girl that age with both parents very much alive, but who almost only acknowledges her mother as a God and has very little or no acknowledgement for her father, says a lot about her background.

I stand to be corrected.

I’m not a child psychologist, but I know that no child who had both parents fully involved in her childhood and welfare would behave that way. It’s a subconscious behaviour developed from her upbringing.

She’s young… very young. But her behaviour already speaks volume about her background.

The video is supposed to be something beautiful. But I just couldn’t help but notice this.

Pardon me, I’m not trying to be pessimistic. I’m just observant. Check the link in the comments to watch the video and see for yourself.

Of course, after this post, people might advise her to do something for her father as a sort of “damage control”. Well, try as you can. It’s already on record.

It’s for men to learn and do better with their children.

Dear men,

Be more involved in your children’s lives, so that they won’t call “mama” a million times before remembering to call “papa”… even while you are still alive.***

What do you make of this?
